Big relief to teachers! Supreme Court reinstated old pension Old Pension Scheme 2025

Digital Desk: In the aided secondary schools of Uttar Pradesh, the ad hoc teachers, who were appointed before 30 September 2000, were demanding the restoration of the old pension scheme for a long time.

They said that the way other regular teachers are getting the benefit of old pension, similarly we should also get this right. The government did not first obey the order of the Allahabad High Court and approached the Supreme Court, but now the Supreme Court also justified the High Court order and dismissed the government's plea.

High court had already given orders

Explain that on 22 March 2016, the Allahabad High Court gave a big decision, in which it was said that the services of ad hoc teachers should be considered equal to regular teachers and they should also be given the benefit of all selection and promoted pay scale including old pension scheme. But the government did not implement this order and filed a special permission petition in the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court rejected the government's petition

On 16 June 2025, the Supreme Court rejected the government's petition in which the government challenged the High Court's decision. The Supreme Court clearly stated that the decision of the High Court is absolutely appropriate and should be implemented. Along with this, the way of old pension scheme was cleared for them, giving big relief to ad hoc teachers.

What is the old pension scheme

After retirement under the old pension scheme, the employee gets a fixed monthly pension, which is fixed on the basis of his last salary. The scheme ensured a safe future for employees. But later the government stopped it and implemented the new pension scheme (NPS), in which the amount received after retirement is market based and it is not guaranteed.

For a long time, the employees had the demand that they be given the benefit of the old pension scheme again, because this will protect their old age.
