Raxaul Airport: Will start again after 62 years, land of six villages will be acquired

Preparations are underway to build an airport in Raxaul, Bihar once again. This airport located on the India-Nepal border will now be started for civilian flights. This will not only benefit passengers but will also make trade and movement between the two countries easier.

Raxaul Airport is being constructed as a joint initiative of the Government of India and the Government of Bihar and this project is now reaching its final stage.

The 62 year old airport will be operational again

Raxaul Airport was started in the year 1962 during the Indo-China war. At that time it was prepared for emergency landing of army planes. 

This airport was closed for the last several decades. Now after 62 years, there is a plan to reopen it for civilian flights. Its opening will provide great relief to the people of Bihar and Nepal.

Acquisition of 139 acres of land from 6 villages

The government will acquire 139 acres of new land for the expansion of Raxaul airport. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) already has 137 acres of land. Now the new land that will be acquired will be taken from six villages of Raxaul region, namely Chikani, Singhpur, Siswa, Ekderwa, Bharatmahi and Chandauli. 

The land of about 400 farmers will be included in this acquisition. The government has made it clear that the people whose land will be acquired will be given full compensation.

The government is doing complete monitoring

The central and state governments are working together rapidly on this project. On 6 December 2024, the Chief Secretary of the state government reviewed this project. 

After this, on 24 December, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that the state government will provide all the land required for the airport. It is clear from this that the government is serious about this work.

Beneficial in terms of economy and security

This area will get a big benefit from the opening of Raxaul Airport. This area can develop as an economic center. Being adjacent to Nepal, business tourism and security system will also improve between the two countries. 

According to experts, after the airport becomes operational, new opportunities for business, industry and employment will open up in the nearby villages and towns. This will also benefit the local people a lot.
