UP News Today: 117 year old rules of land registry will be changed, fraud and forgery will be curbed

Registration Act: The aim of the comprehensive change made by the Central Government in the land registry process is to make land purchase and sale more transparent, digital and secure. This decision is a big step towards taking the states towards a uniform digital registry system, which will directly benefit the common people.

Online land registry: The current registration law is in force across the country, but state governments have the right to change it. For this, consultation with the Center is necessary.

Many states have already amended the law to allow online registration. The central government has drafted an important bill to ensure digital security of documents and make online registration of property mandatory.

This proposed law will replace the 117-year-old Registration Act. The Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development, has made this draft available to the public.

Online registration allowed

The current registration law is in force across the country, but state governments have the right to change it. For this, consultation with the Center is necessary.

Many states have already amended the law to allow online registration. Keeping this in mind, the Center has decided to make a comprehensive law that will be applicable uniformly across the country. Now the draft bill will make it mandatory to register Agreement to Sell, Power of Attorney, Sale Certificate and Equitable Mortgage.

Aadhaar based verification is required

The government has also proposed an Aadhaar-based verification system, which will require the consent of citizens. Also, there will be a provision for alternative verification for those who do not want to share Aadhaar numbers. This effort is considered important to reduce fraud and forgery.

Also, the government is going to allow records and electronic registration certificates to be digitally preserved. Now e-submission of documents and registration will be online.

"The increasing use of technology in recent years, changing socio-economic behavior and increasing dependence on registered documents have underlined the need for a modern and future-oriented registration system," the Land Resources Department said in a statement. The department has also sought views from the general public on this draft.

Fraud and cheating will stop

The central government said that now all the documents will be submitted online, so there is no need to go to the register office. The process will be fast and visible along with the availability of digital signature and digital certificate immediately.

Alternative verification will be available for those who want to share their number on Aadhaar number. With this decision of the government, a master plan is being made to control forgery and fraud.
