Samruddhi Mahamarg Opening: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has inaugurated the last 76 km long section of the 'Samruddhi Mahamarg' expressway. With the opening of this section, this 701 km long expressway will be fully operational. The travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur will be reduced from 17-18 hours to just eight hours.
Samruddhi Mahamarg Route: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the last phase of Samruddhi Mahamarg, built to make travel easier between Mumbai and Nagpur.
The construction of Maharashtra's longest and the country's widest twin tunnel has been completed in this. By opening this last phase of 76 km between Igatpuri and Thane for vehicles, the journey from Mumbai to Nagpur can be completed in 7 to 8 hours. This route has been made for the country's most high-tech highway by cutting through the mountains.
The height of the bridge is that of a 20 storey building
To bridge the gap between one mountain and another, a viaduct (bridge) as high as a 20-storey building was built. There are two viaducts in total. One is 910 meters high and the other is 1295 meters.
During the construction of this tunnel, high pressure water mist system has been used for the first time in the country. Under this technology, if there is any fire accident in the tunnel, the fire system will start working automatically as soon as the temperature reaches 60 degrees Celsius. Water will start spraying from the pipes installed in the tunnel.
To provide internet facility to the passengers during the journey, a 'leaky cable' has been arranged inside the tunnel. This will give a good signal.
The rainiest area
Igatpuri falls in the rainiest areas of Maharashtra. This entire project was divided into 16 packages. This work falls under package 14. Due to the river being near the tunnel, a lot of difficulties had to be faced in completing it.
According to Afcons Infrastructure, a dam had to be built near the site to continue the work during the rains.
To ensure that the tunnel does not get flooded in the future, a shed tunnel of up to 200 meters has been built in the initial part. The work of this tunnel was completed before the deadline.
