Tech News: Google has discontinued its new AI feature Ask Photos for now. This has been done after continuous complaints from users. People said that this feature runs very slow, does not work properly and is difficult to use.

Google started the Ask Photos feature last year as a test for a select few people. Its purpose was to make it easier for people to find a specific photo in their photo gallery by asking questions in simple language. For example, users could say, "Show me the photo from last Diwali" or "Show me the photo that has a cake in it."

Google has temporarily shut down its AI feature Ask Photos for now. This decision has been taken after complaints from users, who said that the feature works slow, the results are not good and there is difficulty in using it.

What is Ask Photos feature?

Google launched this feature last year as a test for some selected users. Its purpose was that people can find a specific picture in their photo gallery by asking questions in common language. Like show me the photos of last Diwali or show me the photo which has a cake.

How does it work?

This feature is based on Google's Gemini AI model, which gives results by understanding the text, faces, places, objects and events present in the photo.

Users expressed anger

Recently, many users expressed their displeasure over its speed and the quality of the results. After this, Google's product manager Jamie Aspinall told on X that Ask Photos is not yet as we wanted. He said that it has been closed for very few people at the moment and soon it will be re-launched after making it better.

The new version will be available in two weeks

Google has said that a new version of this feature will be launched in about two weeks, in which speed, quality and user experience will be improved than before.

Other improvements in Google Photos too

Some changes have also been made to Google Photos search. Now users can use quotes ("") when searching for photos so that they get the most accurate results, such as the file name, camera model or text written in the photo. If quotes are not used, Google will now also show photos that look similar.

Google is keeping an eye on AI features

This is not the first time Google has halted its AI feature. Earlier, 'AI Overview' and 'Gemini Image Generator' were also temporarily shut down due to incorrect information and errors.

Google's promise

Google says that it wants to make photo browsing easier and searchable in human-like language with the help of AI. The company wants users to now ask questions in spoken language instead of typing keywords and get the right photo.

Even though Ask Photos is now closed, its core purpose remains the same – to give users a smart and easy way to access their memories.
