News, Digital Desk- ( Toll Tax Rules) When you travel by road, whether on state or national highways, you come across many toll plazas. At these plazas, vehicles have to pay toll tax. This tax is charged at different rates, depending on the distance traveled and the type of vehicle.

The earlier manual toll tax system has now been replaced by FASTag, which eliminates the need to stop at the toll plaza. However, there are many situations where one does not have to pay toll tax.

Some special rules have been made in India, under which some specific persons are exempted from toll tax. It is interesting to know about these rules.

You don't have to pay toll tax if you are late

Generally, all four-wheelers have to pay toll tax. Toll tax has to be paid through the fast tag installed on the vehicle. But there are some occasions where you can pass without paying toll tax.

According to the rules, if you are waiting for more than 10 seconds for the toll tax to be deducted at the toll gate, then you will have to pay the toll tax.

So in such a situation you can proceed further without paying toll tax. According to the rules of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), if there is a long line of cars of more than 100 meters at the toll plaza, then in such a case also you do not have to pay toll tax. Or if the FASTag machine of any toll plaza is not working, then also you can pay the toll tax.

These people also do not have to pay toll tax-

Some special persons in India are exempted from toll tax. These include the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Governors of states, Chief Justice and other judges of the Supreme Court, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Union Cabinet Ministers, Chief Ministers of all states, Lieutenant Governors of Union Territories, and Secretary-level officers in the Government of India. These high-ranking persons are exempted from paying toll fee during official visits.
