Uttar Pradesh News: Now everyone's attention is on the hearing to be held in July. Should the electricity burden be increased further or should the general public get relief?

Electricity rates may increase again in Uttar Pradesh. UP Power Corporation has proposed a 30 percent increase in electricity rates.

The Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved this proposal. Now there will be a hearing on this in July. Whether electricity rates will increase or not will be decided only after the hearing.

Also, the commission has ordered the electricity companies to make public the complete details of their income and expenditure in three days.

Deficit Rs 19600 croredeficit Rs 19600 crore

In fact, UP Power Corporation had applied to the Annual Revenue Requirement (ARR) Commission, which will run from the year 2025 to 26. Earlier, a loss of about Rs 1000 crore was reported in it.

But a few days later, the company submitted a revised RR, in which the loss was stated to be Rs 19600 crore. On this basis, it is proposed to increase electricity rates by 30 percent. The commission has accepted it and fixed the date of hearing on it in July.

Consumer Council President Awadhesh Kumar Verma has made serious allegations in this matter. In violation of the rules, the RR was not put on the website of the Regulatory Commission.

Verma claimed that the proposal to increase electricity rates was accepted secretly. This is the first time that the proposal was not approved publicly. He says that the Consumer Council will oppose this decision and go to court to protect the interests of consumers.

Direct impact on common man's pocket

The increase in electricity rates directly affects the pocket of the common man. Electricity prices will be affected as they are already expensive.

Electricity rates have already increased several times in UP. While the government says that consumers will be given relief, people are getting upset due to the continuous increase in electricity rates.

UP ranks fifth in the country in terms of subsidy in electricity rates. Rajasthan ranks first, while Karnataka ranks second. Despite this, the Electricity Corporation says that the government is not helping in increasing electricity rates.

Verma said that this is an attempt to mislead people. He demanded that the work of the management of the Electricity Corporation should be investigated.

The Electricity Consumer Council has long raised its voice on electricity rates in the state. The council says that it is wrong to make the proposal without making it public.
