Why is Aadhaar update necessary? 

As per UIDAI's Enrolment and Update Rules, 2016, it is mandatory for every Aadhaar card holder to update the Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) every 10 years. This ensures that there is no problem in availing government benefits, banking services and KYC processes. 

Free Aadhaar Card Update: What all can be updated? 

Aadhaar cardholders can update the following details online for free: Name (minor correction); Date of Birth (as per rules); Address; Gender; Language preference. 

However, for biometric update (fingerprint, iris scan, photo) you will have to visit the nearest Aadhaar centre. 

Free Aadhaar Card Update: How to update online? 

• Visit the myAadhaar website 
• Login with Aadhaar number and OTP 
• Select the “Document Update” option 
• Upload valid PoI and PoA documents (JPEG/PNG/PDF, max 2MB) 
• Submit and track updates with Service Request Number (SRN).
