Digital Desk: NSP Scholarship Scheme 2025: This scheme has been started by the Government of India with the aim of making education accessible and equal for all. Through the NSP portal, many scholarship schemes of the central and state governments have been made available at one place.
NSP Scholarship
The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is a digital initiative of the Government of India, through which students get the facility to apply for multiple scholarships on a single platform. It includes scholarship schemes run by the Central Government, State Government, and UGC/AICTE. The objective of this portal is to make scholarship distribution transparent and fast, so that financially weak students can get timely assistance.
Which students will get the benefit of scholarship
This scheme is mainly for those students:
- Who are financially weak.
- Whose family's annual income is low.
- Who are studying in a recognized school, college or university.
- Whose bank account is active for DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).
Benefits of NSP Scholarship
- Under the scheme, students are given scholarship up to ₹ 75,000.
- This amount is sent directly to the bank account of the students.
- The scholarship amount covers expenses like tuition fees, books, hostel fees etc.
- Application for dozens of scholarship schemes of the central and state government is possible from a single portal.
- So far, an amount of more than ₹ 2400 crore has been given to the students.
Types of NSP Scholarship Scheme
- Pre-Matric Scholarship – For students from class 1 to 10
- Post-Matric Scholarship – For students from class 11 to graduation
- Merit-cum-Means Scholarship – For students taking admission in professional courses
- Top Class Education Scholarship – For SC/ST students studying in prestigious institutions
- Special schemes for minority and disabled students – For socially disadvantaged groups
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant must be a citizen of India.
- The student must be studying in a recognized institution to be eligible for the scholarship.
- The annual income of the family should be limited as per the terms of the scholarship (eg ₹1 lakh to ₹2.5 lakh).
- The student must have his own bank account linked to DBT.
- No family member should be an income taxpayer (in some schemes).

How to apply online for NSP Scholarship
- Visit the website https://scholarships.gov.in/.
- Click on “Student Login” and go to New Registration.
- Read the required instructions, tick the checkbox and click on “Continue”.
- Now enter the mobile number and verify with OTP.
- Enter the Aadhaar number and fill in the information – like educational details, bank details, scheme selection etc.
- Scan and upload the required documents.
- Finally submit the form and keep its printout safe.
What happens after application
- The application is checked by the institute and the state nodal agency.
- If any mistake is found in the documents, the application may be rejected.
- If found eligible, the scholarship amount is transferred directly to the student's account.
Till when can one apply
Every year the scholarship application process on the NSP portal starts from July and runs till October-November. The same is expected for 2025. However, keep an eye on the official portal for confirmation of the last date.
